Can you say, "pocky"? - 4/29/02

Tomorrow, I have to do a presentation in Japanese about Pocky.  (You all know what Pocky is, right?  That deliciously delicious thin wafer dipped in chocolate?  Good stuff!)  I'm so nervous!  But speaking of nervous, perhaps poor Wallin here has a bigger problem than me.  Here's Monday's comic!

Come on, Summer! - 4/26/02

Sorry for the late update!  I didn't go to bed until 8 A.M., with class at 11:45, so you can imagine how tired I've been on and off all day.  I can't wait for summer vacation... or, according to the comic, I can probably wait.  And here's Friday's comic.

More comics! - 4/24/02

I'm updating at 5 A.M., so I don't feel like writing much of a rant or anything.  I will say, however, don't put aluminum foil in the microwave!  It's dangerous, and the bill you will have to pay to get a new one is definitely not pretty... I should know, but we'll save this story for another night, maybe Friday! ^_^  Anyway, hope you like the comic!

Juice!  I hope you all had a good weekend!  But now it's Monday again, and work begins, and life goes down the drain until Friday... anyway, hope you enjoy today's comic, and look for more again on Wednesday and Friday!

Weekend = Fun! - 4/19/02

Yay!  It's the weekend!  Time to relax from tests and homework and studying.  I hope you're all enjoying Spring, the season of anime and video games!... but actually every season is the season of anime and video games.  Anyway, here's Friday's comic. ^_^

Economics is scary... - 4/17/02

Phweeeee!  I have a test for econ 101 today, and I'm not that good at economics.  It's sooooo hot lately, I'm melting!  But anyway, here's Wednesday's comic!  Have a nice day!!!

Yep, that's correct, we're on schedule and as promised, here's the next comic for Monday.  Stay tuned for the ones on Wednesday and Friday!  Enjoy the nice weather assuming you have some, and if you don't, then go watch some anime!

Natsu Yasumi!  Wai! - 4/14/02

That's right folks, the title says it all!... but, what does it say?  'Natsu Yasumi' is summer vacation in Japanese.  Soon I'll be done with my freshmen year of college, and I can't say I'll miss it.  Ugh, stressssssss!!!  And getting ideas for comics hasn't been any help at all.  Now for the good news!

Today (Sunday), Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I will be posting brand-new comics!!!  You're all so lucky!  And here is the Sunday one.  Enjoy it!

Today is my birthday (and I'm stuck at school, bleh, hehe)!  But at least I got some cake and a new anime yesterday.  And for all of you, a new comic!  Enjoy!

Back into the swing of things - 3/17/02

I've been playing Dark Age of Camelot lately, and I also took a time out to play Everquest on Thursday.  Things are changing all too quickly.  My third semester in college has ended (but it wasn't as good as the first one... stupid economics 101...), and only 8 more weeks to go before I'm done with my freshman year!

Also, the 25th of this month is my birthday!  I'll be turning 19 (and I still don't have a driver's license, but don't ask why!).  Gahhh, 19 years have gone by so fast, and there's still so much left anime to watch!

I've been doing comics for my school newspaper.  I didn't get to update last week since I had to go out of town (I almost didn't have enough time for the comic either, boy what hectic week that was...).  Anyway, here's what you've been waiting for!

Click here to see Stupidity Goes Both Ways

My characters are slowly evolving... they have personalities now... scary isn't it?  If this change is for the better or for the worse, I have no idea.  ^^;;

"Juice!" - 2/25/02

For those of you who read the heading, you must be thinking I'm expressing a need for OJ with the flu.  Well, I'm not sick anymore (I hope), and it actually has nothing to do with the delicious beverage, but rather, it's Japanese slang!  If you've ever watched Kare Kano, episode 11, the characters said "Juice!" to greet each other (I guess it means 'Hi' or 'Yo').  That's your Japanese lesson for the day.

I've been trying to get into the local college newspaper with my comics, but I can't seem to get the chance to meet with the guy who's head of the art department.  Oh well, that's their loss. ^^;;

This is one of the very few comics that I've drawn completely by hand (versus the normal drawing tablet and cut & paste).  I know it's not perfect, but man, it's hard to draw the same thing in all four panels!  I'm over the flu, but I might have caught something while I was at home for the weekend (dust and I don't mix).  Now midterms are coming up!  Only one week after this until spring break!

Anyway, here's the comic I drew for the newspaper.  Hope you find it funny (a couple of avid readers didn't understand it, so... ^^;;)!!!

I caught the flu, aiyaaaa! - 2/18/02

Yes folks, it's that wonderful time of the year!  Valentine's Day (hope yours was a blast, I spent mine doing laundry in the basement of my dormitory), spring on the way, and winter's gentle snowfall and icy touch that gives innocent people like me the flu!  Arrrrrrrrggg!  So I haven't really done much, except I updated the Chibi Cast section (and I bet you'll never guess where the new portraits came from... ^^;;).

Don't get sick.  It sucks. ^_^

It's February!  Yay!!!  - 2/10/02

Yay, it's February!... I don't really know why that's so great, but I can't think of anything else to write in the heading right now.  Anyway, today's update is not a comic, but the art for my future comic book or whatever... it's supposed to have more characters in it to, I just haven't gotten around to that.

More Blitzball Goodness - 1/28/02

After extensive scientific research, I have created the following White Paper: Why Blitzballs Hurt
(what's in those things, anyway?)

Next I'm either going to write an article on Aeons/Guardian Forces, or on Gunblades... ^_^

- Chibi-Acer

Let's Blitz!  - 1/21/02

I just finished my review of Blitzball for the Playstation 2! For some reason, they're calling it Final Fantasy X in the US. Oh well, it's still a great game, even though all that sword stuff in the intro takes way too much time.

Hehe, more Final Fantasy parody goodies soon to come!

- Chibi-Acer

And you've been hiding where?  - 12/18/01

Ouch, the page hasn't been updated in a quite a while.  I took my last exam for the semester last Friday, so now I have a bit more time to do things.

No, I never did get around to doing the other merchandise at Cafepress, although I don't really think it's fair to charge five bucks with addition shipping for a cheap 2D ornament that's smaller than the palm of your hand.  I got a bear from Cafepress, and it's cute!  I got a hat, too, which is even better!  Buy any special merchandise now before they disappear at the end of the year!

Now, besides school, most of you are probably wondering where the heck I've been spending my time.  Chibi-Acer has gotten me addicted to Dark Age of Camelot, and that along with my previous, yet still strong interest in Everquest has lead to playing late into the night and getting up way too early to play some more.  Soon, I (and Chibi-Acer if he has the time) will be doing a review of both games, but I'll give a few comments right now.

DAoC: Great graphics, very customizable characters, many features that EQ players have always dreamed of.  It's good overall, but I sometimes find a lack of interaction, especially at the low levels.  The falling damage they implemented recently is also a LOT more brutal that EQ's, and raising skills is based on points earned per level instead of by working at them.

EQ: More races, more race interaction, more skill choices, wider variety of spells, has the ability to get your player drunk, faster movement between places.  However, I must comment that after I installed the Luclin expansion, my characters went from looking semi-cool to just plain lousy.

And this was the contribution I made to my guild's newspaper, which was actually made at the end of November.  This was hand drawn, and so I didn't feel like coloring it in.  To enjoy this strip, all you really need to know is that Menel is a guild officer, you need five gold to purchase the guild's cloak, and you have to be level 20 before you can wear it according to DAoC rules.

Give the gift of fuzz!  - 11/05/01

Ah, Christmas, the season of love, family, and warm hearts amongst the cold winter nights... and, of course, who can forget the fuzz?  Available on Cafepress until January 1, 2002 are these 11 inch tall adorable little bears!

Awww, ain't (s)he cute?  And to top it off, Chibi-Wallin is dressed up as Santa Claus to spread even more Christmas cheer!  For a better look at this product as well as the other Christmas merchandise, go and visit Chibistore4!

From November 6th to November 18th, if you spend more than $50 in an order, you will get FREE SHIPPING at Cafepress!  So get those orders in before the offer is gone!

There are also cute two-dimensional round and bell-shaped ornaments available, however, I'm fiddling around with the graphic size.  I'll have them perfect before the end of the week.  There's also a stocking, but I think the picture looks rather small there, too.

Also, the time to purchase steins has been extended until Jan. 1, 2002!  One type can be found at Chibistore (the left one) and I've also added created a new one (the right one) in Chibistore4!  The stein I have looks great, and is handy for beer (so I'm told, heh heh) or for holding pencils.  ^^;;

Make sure to bundle up if you live up north, it's getting to be pretty chilly out!

Happy Halloween!  - 10/31/01

Happy Halloween to everyone!  Hope you're having a good one!  Be careful of strangers, bad candy, and the weather!

I created a new section found on the left under 'Chibi Cast'.  It's not much at all right now, but it's just a small tidbit of information on the main character of the comic.

Also, here's the latest comic, too!  (Sorry for the sad looking broom... ^^;;)

Not enough time!  - 10/30/01

"Where's the comic?"  That's what you're thinking, right?  Let me give you a run down of my day today; JUST today.

Wake up at 8:20, arrive at Japanese class at 8:50, take a unit test until 9:55 (class ends at 9:50), go to next class at 10 for my psychology test until 10:50, walk back to my room by 11:05, read an article for english and write a short essay on it until 12:15, leave for class at 12:25, arrive at 12:45 and do more reading, pop quiz at 1:05, class over at 1:50, read and write another essay until philosophy at 2:30, class starts and then ends at 3:50, english class from 4 to 5:20, break for dinner until 6:30, go back out for a club event that gets delayed until 8:30, come back at 10:06, floor activity started at 10, got back to my room finally at 11:35, started writing this at 11:45, and going to bed at 12.

Pretty confusing, huh?  I had to live through that, and I'm still spinning in circles!  Anyway, I will definitely do a couple of drawings and/or comics tomorrow (since I only have one class and NO tests, thank goodness!).  Look forward to it!

Kononachiwa!  - 10/08/01

Hello everyone! Well, I'm finally mostly moved into my apartment!  I had to get a cable modem hooked up, a new TV, shelves, a bed, a sofa...sheesh! Getting your own place is mad expensive! ^_^

Anyway, I think I'm finally settled in.  I can't afford cable TV (rather I could, but then I couldn't afford other stuff), but I've got my PS2 hooked up and running DVD's in most of my spare time while I'm on the computer. Just the usual stuff, Gundam Wing, Cardcaptor Sakura, and the Matrix. ^_^

So, since I got this cable modem, I had to get some games to go with it.  I've been playing Operation: Flashpoint with some of the guys at work (interesting game), but the latest time snatcher is Ragnarok Online! It's an online massive multiplayer game that plays like Secret of Mana but looks like Final Fantasy Tactics!  I blame Greg Dean of Real Life Comics for this one. ^_^

Here's my review!

Why is Japanese so hard?  - 9/27/01

I'm taking Japanese in college and it's so difficult to go from knowing english, to learning french, and then to taking another new language!  But that's probably because I never study enough, hehe!  I spend too much time watching The Slayers and Kiki's Delivery Service.  Anyway, here's the latest comic based again on exciting college life!

I'm sure everyone knows about what happened yesterday, I don't need to explain it.  In light of that, I hope anyone who has the chance will help out in some way, shape, or form.  And this is a very small contribution of my own.  "A tiny gift of hope..."

Sorry everyone, I don't have a review yet for Please Save My Earth, but I do have a new comic for you!

Click here to see Having Second Thoughts

I'm currently looking for the anime club in college, but so far I haven't found it.  Guess I'll have to look a little harder.  I'll try to get the review in by tonight or on Monday.

I also got my first order of Cafepress merchandise!  The mugs are awesome, the shirts are great quality (and are supposed to be washing machine safe, too!), I plan on getting a baseball cap in the logo store next!  I didn't do the actual ordering, but I think they arrived in less than a week from when Acer placed the order without using Fed-Ex (although it may take longer for others, so...)!  Oh, and just so you know, when you click on the Item Shop link, the images shown are low quality jpg's, the shirts are far from unprofessional. ^_^

Finally, a new comic!  - 8/31/01

Okay, I actually made a new comic after a really, really long break!  The idea of the joke came from the 'moving to college' thing.  Hope you like this one!

Click here to see Go Easy With It, It's Not a Toy!

You might notice this strip was colored and shaded a little differently than the first few comics.  It's more like the MT entry style and format. ^_^

Later (or next weekend) I'll try to do a review of the anime Please Save My Earth!

On Cafepress, I have added the back image to the shirts and have also opened a new store!  Take a look at the old shirts (and buy something too ^_^) and don't forget to see the new merchandise found at Chibi Item Shop 4!

Happy Birthday and stuff!  - 8/23/01

Happy Birthday to...umm...me!  And Happy Birthday wishes to Jennifer Greiner as well!

Well, Wallin left for college today.  Poor Wallin...at least four years of college ahead of him.  He checked out his dorm room yesterday.  He's in a split double room with some guy from New York City.  Apparently, on his floor all of the rooms on his side of the building are all occupied by college girls.  I feel soooo sorry for him.  What a terrible start to your college life... ^_^

In all seriousness, I hope you college students make sure to enjoy yourself.  I haven't been out that long, but I almost miss college already.  Right now I'm still in summer job mode.  Once it hits me that I'm (possibly) never going back to school, I'm sure I'll feel even more sentimental than I am right now. ^_^  Live it up while you can! (And be sure to take pictures!)

In other news, I've found myself an apartment.  It's actually probably a lot more than I should be spending, but it's really really nice.  Now I just need furniture...oops. ^_^  Actually, my parents just got me an awesome new computer desk.  I think I'm going to get a sofa and bed at BJ's Wholesale Club after I move, which will be September 1st.  Plus I've finished a major milestone on one of the business projects I'm working on, which means even more time to work on Chibi Knights starting in September!

If you haven't been to the arcades lately, take a trip down!  I hadn't been in one for probably around a full year, and even then it was a month or more between visits.  Recently one of my friends introduced me to this awesome game, Police 911!  It's a lightgun game, that has a twist of motion sensor that detects your movements.  So when you stand on the arcade platform and physically sidestep or duck, your view adjusts to move you behind obstacles so that you can avoid getting shot!  It's totally awesome!  I'll post a review later on.

In other Chibi Knight related news, Wallin update the picture that goes on the back of the t-shirts, so now they're even cooler!

- Chibi-Acer

Tsk, tsk... sleeping on the job?  - 8/19/01

Okay, this is my first time to write something on the main page (how exciting)!  I've been slacking off again during summer break (mostly sleeping, watching TV, sleeping in front of the TV, eating, eating in front of... you get the idea).  I haven't made any new comics, but I'm posting some artwork that I've been working on recently to sort of make up for it.

-----

I drew both of those with my drawing tablet instead of with pencil and paper.  I colored them (and made the backgrounds) with Adobe Photoshop, too.  The guy's name is Artholomin and the girl's name is Melarey.  You'll learn more about them later. ^_^

Acer has been looking for his own apartment lately and I am going to be starting college this week.  Hopefully, I'll get in a review and another comic before I take off (and maybe I'll get my profile done, too).

We've also been playing Worms Armageddon and Pokemon Gold/Silver/Stadium 2 a lot.  We rented Ever Grace for the Playstation 2, but only played it once.  It didn't include the manual and so it wasn't very fun, or interesting, or understandable.

- Chibi-Wallin

Who will be the Cosmo Beauty?  - 7/25/01

Hee hee!  I finished my review of Battle Athletes Victory (anime).  I included more screenshots than usual.  This will probably become more of standard for reviews.

Today I was thinking about how much I hate the Shuffle feature on audio players.  Personally, I think playlist randomize is far superior.  If you use shuffle on a large list of songs, you may never hear your favorite song even after hours of playing.  Also, shuffle isn't very random (or perhaps too random?), as I often hear a single song within a 10 minute span, and have sometimes heard the same one played twice in a row.  If you simply randomize a playlist before playing, you encounter neither of these problems.  Just my five cents... ^_^

Megatokyo Contest Submission  - 7/24/01

Click here to see Do I Really Want to Draw This?

This was Wallin's submission to the Megatokyo contest.  Unfortunately, he didn't get posted, but it's still really funny! ^_^ Actually, out of the submissions that were posted, I only found a couple of them to be humorous (though those were pretty funny).  You needed knowledge of various anime in order to understand a few of them, but even though I recognized the references, I didn't get much of a laugh out of them.  Oh well, win some, lose some... ^_^

Who're you? - It's me! - Me? Me who? - You? You're Rocky the Flying Squirrel...  - 7/23/01

Oops! I didn't do the About page yet!  I knew I forgot something...

Tada! Right now it's all about yours truly. ^_^

I'll bug Wallin to do up his info later.

- Chibi-Acer

Cool stuff! Buy now! ^_^  - 7/07/01

Hee hee! Megatokyo had a guest-strip contest last week.  Wallin sent in a submission, it's pretty funny.  If it doesn't win (or even it does), we'll post it on here later in the week.  Until then, wish us luck!  ^_^

Wallin also submitted some of his artwork to Cafepress.  So now you can buy cool anime shirts and mugs! Even though we haven't really identified any characters on this site yet, they still look awesome!  Wallin gets a small payment every time you buy something, and since he's soon to be a poor college student, help him out and look cool at the same time!  Right now there are 3 different designs.  Gotta catch 'em all! ^_^

I gotta get me one of those mugs for the office. ^_^  BTW, Cafepress has told me that if you want items in different "stores", you can place an order and then e-mail them, and they will combine the orders to save money for shipping purposes.

Acer-chan check! ^_^

As a side note, Wallin and I are discussing the plot and layout for a new PC game.  I'll try to wrap up some stuff for Hyperspace (like the homing missiles), but that will probably go on the back burner for a while.  I'm looking for an apartment soon, so that should give me more time to work on this stuff.

The new game will be a "tactics" strategy type game.  If you've ever played Shining Force or Final Fantasy Tactics, you'll have a pretty good idea of what I'm shooting for.

Work is hard - 6/17/01

Argh! Okay, I kinda slipped on an update for last week.  I don't have anything finished yet for this week's update either.  I'm finally a full-fledged member of the work force now, and am still adjusting to long commutes and lost sleep time.

I'm still aiming for a minimum of once a week updates, so as a penalty for missing last week's, I'm going to post at least 3 new articles/revisions to the site throughout the week.  Keep a watch out for reviews on Tribes 2, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040.  If I get time, I'm also going to write an article on my experience on how to create a local home network, and how to connect it to the Internet.

I'm also going to show Wallin how to update the site so we can get more content up soon. ^_^

- Chibi-Acer

More Anime - 6/03/01

Click here to see To Brag or to Die...

Boy, updating this site is taking more time than I thought it would.  I haven't been able to convert the game section yet, but I did get around to rewriting the Slayers anime review.  More reviews to come, of course.

I haven't gotten the missiles working in Hyperspace yet, but I did draft out how to do it.  The problem I ran into is that the objects in the game don't have a pointer targeting system installed, so I either had to redesign programming objects or build an extension.  If that sounds like gibberish, it's not that fun for me to work on, either.

Another silly comic this week about how great high school is by Wallin.

- Chibi-Acer

More Updates - 5/27/01

Click here to see What Day is This?

I'm finally getting around to replacing all the content for the site.  I changed the Anime Web Turnpike shortcut from Winter Trixie to the standard Spring Trixie.  I also replaced the AnimeNation banner to Real Life, the web comic.  This is partly because I love Greg Dean's comic, but also because I'm having mixed thoughts about my dealings with AnimeNation.  More on this next time.  Also, I apparently forgot to actually link the banners to their respective sites.  Oops.  They're working now. ^_^

Lately I've been on a Tribes 2 kick.  It's a really addictive game!  I'll try to post a review on it once I transport the rest of the old content to the site.  The games section was actually the largest part of the site.  I've also been on a Pokemon Stadium 2 craze with Wallin.  For some reason, he can't answer that many trivia questions on the hard level playing solo, but he consistently beats me when we go head to head...

I start going back to work part-time this week, but that'll probably work out okay since it'll finally get me into the working mood.  No posted update for Hyperspace yet.  I'll definitely have something for next week!  Acer out.

- Chibi-Acer

New Web Comic! - 5/20/01

Yes, I know the AP tests have been over by a few weeks already. Wallin did this one and a few more during AP time (doesn't that guy ever study?), but we've been tweaking certain ideas and such since then.  Anyway, I remember the AP tests well enough to think it's a funny comic, and I took 'em 4 years ago!

Click here to see the The Night Before the Exam

Okay, I had planned to do more of an update for this week, but all this packing and saying goodbye stuff has been taking up way too much of my time.  Not to mention I keep having to go into work in order to keep them afloat. ^_^

Definitely more stuff coming this week! I'll try to have the death blossom attack in Hyperspace.  But first I'll have to get those heat-seeking missiles working...

Congratulations 2001 Graduates! - 5/13/01

Wow! The time has just flown by! Now we head out into the world, yada yada yada... ^_^

Seriously, these last four (4!) years have been the best in my life!  I'm glad I got to know all of you, and wish you nothing but happiness and success.  I hope you all stay in touch! ^_^

Now that I'm done being sappy, I'm also glad that I managed to get through college without severely hurting anyone.  Four years ago I never would have believed it, but college truly is a different place.

Right now the only new content in my site is the Software page.  I haven't converted any of the old stuff over yet.  The Hyperspace Project (a.k.a., Asteroids 2), my senior programming project is available for download.  I'll be updating it over the next few weeks, and will be putting up some directions on how to play later this week.

Updates will be made to this site at least once a week!  I'm promising myself to do this, or I'll never update the site consistently (or at all).  So check back every now and then!

Again, congratulations and best wishes to everyone!

- Chibi-Acer (Matt Lam)
