Vol. 1, No. 3 (May 5, 1997)

Welcome!

My apologies for not sending out a newsletter last week. I won't bore you with details, but school work has been pushing my limits. In the world of the SSL, things are heating up as well...

- General News:

http://starleague.cafes.net is back up. Hopefully for good. Daemon's new server has new software and all that, so things are looking up.

The JC member election is now closed. The Judicial Council consists of (alphabetically): GPhat, MWarrior, Paradox, SilverWings, and WildHunt. Captain Radon, DoubtFreak, and Lord Davor didn't make it, but deserve a round of applause for still standing strong.

The mixed/uni race poll is also closed. Uni won. Multiple races are playable on the ladder, but clans are restricted to the use of a single race on the StarMap. This issue may be reopened upon the release of StarCraft, depending on how well/bad races play together.

The StarMap issue is becoming a big focus of the league. As such, Acer has created a StarMap Suggestions Forum, and added several new sections to the StarMap page. The forum and other sections are linked from the top of the main StarMap page. Please note the forum is under heavy construction. Suggestions can be sent to Acer at mlam@borg.com, but no flames, please.

-High Council News:

Again, nothing new inside the High Council. As such, I'm discontinuing this column as a regular section. It will only appear when the HC has something to report.

-StarCraft News:

Computer Gaming World, the magazine that published that great StarCraft preview several weeks ago, put up more information at their homepage. Their site is at: http://cgw.gamespot.com/ and two articles are found at:

http://cgw.gamespot.com/gaming/content/970415/star/star.html

http://cgw.gamespot.com/gaming/content/970415/star/star2.html

There's some great info and unit pictures here, complete with names.

-SSL Newsletter - Now Hiring

I haven't picked the writer for the SC Site of the Week column yet, but I'm no longer accepting applications. I would appreciate it if those who applied would write a sample of their work. To make it easy, I suggest writing on Station 17. GPhat expressed the idea of having a JC newsletter, so if a JC member would like to write a JC News column, that'd be cool. Other ideas for columns or sections may be used as well, contact me at mlam@borg.com if you'd like to apply. (A sample of your work will help.)

Questions? Comments? E-mail me at mlam@borg.com
